CMS Announces Plan for Web-Based Submissions of WCMSA Files

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has released information on plans for a new process regarding submitting workers’ compensation Medicare Set-Aside (WCMSA) arrangements to CMS for approval.

The CMS has indicated that they are trying to move the current process from a traditional mail-in format, to electronic submission via a web-based portal by the calendar year 2010. This is being done in an effort to simplify the submission process. Per the CMS, the benefits that could result from this new process include:

  • Allows for quicker creation of new WCMSA cases for processing
  • Facilitates tracking of the status of submitted WCMSA cases
  • Provides for almost instantaneous feedback to the submitter
  • Reduces the need for mailings
